Why SpinBob asks for KYC
KYC — Know Your Customer — is the set of checks every UK-licensed casino must run. Since UK rules require age and identity verification before any play, including free-play demos, SpinBob runs an automatic check at registration using your name, date of birth and address. Many players pass instantly. If the automatic check cannot confirm your details, or when you make your first withdrawal, you will be asked to upload documents.
The checks protect you as much as anyone: they stop under-18s playing, prevent someone opening an account in your name and make sure withdrawals go to the right person.

Which documents SpinBob accepts
| Document type | Accepted examples | Key rules |
|---|---|---|
| Photo ID | Passport, UK photocard driving licence, national ID card | In date, all four corners visible, photo clear |
| Proof of address | Utility bill, council tax bill, bank statement | Dated within the last 3 months, shows full name and address |
| Proof of payment (card) | Photo of your debit card | Middle 8 digits and CVV covered; name and expiry visible |
| Proof of payment (e-wallet) | Screenshot of PayPal, Skrill, Neteller or Revolut account | Shows your name and account email or ID |
| Source of Funds (if asked) | Payslips, bank statements, P60 | Recent, complete pages, not edited |
Mobile phone bills and screenshots of online banking homepages are often refused as proof of address, so stick to the list above where you can.
How to upload your documents
- Log in to SpinBob and open Account → Verification.
- Choose the document type you are uploading — photo ID, proof of address or proof of payment.
- Photograph or scan the document using the tips below, then select the file (JPG, PNG or PDF).
- Upload the front, and the back where the document has information on both sides.
- Repeat for each document requested, then check every upload shows as “pending review”.
- Wait for the review — usually 24–48 hours — and watch your email for a confirmation or a request for more.
Photo tips that get documents approved first time
Most rejected SpinBob KYC uploads fail for presentation, not content. These habits make the difference:
- Use daylight or a bright room. Avoid flash, which creates glare on passports and plastic cards.
- Lay the document flat on a dark, plain surface so the edges stand out.
- Show all four corners. A cropped edge is the most common reason for rejection.
- Hold the phone directly above the document, not at an angle.
- Do not edit the image. Filters, cropping tools and annotations can make a document look altered.
- Upload the whole page of a bill or statement, not a cut-out of the address block.
- Check the date. Proof of address must be dated within the last 3 months.
- Match your account. The name and address should match what you entered at registration exactly.
💡 Downloaded PDFs are fine
Many UK banks and utility companies let you download statements as PDFs. These are usually clearer than photos of paper bills and are accepted as long as they show your name, address and a recent date.
Common rejection reasons
| Rejection reason | What it means | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Document blurry or unreadable | Text or photo cannot be read | Retake in better light, hold the camera steady |
| Corners cut off | Part of the document is missing | Step back so the whole document is in frame |
| Document expired | ID past its expiry date | Upload a different, in-date ID |
| Address proof too old | Dated more than 3 months ago | Upload a more recent bill or statement |
| Name or address mismatch | Details differ from your account | Ask support to update your details, with evidence |
| Card digits not covered | Full card number visible | Cover the middle 8 digits and the CVV |
| Screenshot not accepted | Cropped or edited screenshot | Use a full, unedited statement or bill |
| Third-party document | Bill in someone else’s name | Use a document in your own name |
If you moved recently, a bank statement sent to your new address is usually the quickest fix. If your name changed, upload your new ID together with a marriage certificate or deed poll, and ask support to update your account.
Source of Funds and affordability checks
Separate from standard KYC, UK operators must make sure players are not gambling more than they can afford. SpinBob may ask for Source of Funds documents if:
- Your deposits increase noticeably over a short period
- You reach certain spending thresholds
- You join or move up the Pearl Society VIP tiers
- A large withdrawal is requested
Typical documents are recent payslips, bank statements showing your income, or a P60. You can black out unrelated transactions on bank statements only if support confirms that is acceptable — otherwise send complete pages.
These checks can feel intrusive, but they are a regulatory duty rather than a judgement. Respond promptly and the review is usually quick. If the questions make you think about how much you are spending, our responsible gambling page has free tools and contacts, including GamCare on 0808 8020 133.
Data security
Your documents contain sensitive personal information, so it is fair to ask how they are handled. UK-licensed operators must:
- Store personal data in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018
- Use encrypted connections for uploads
- Keep documents only as long as legally required
To protect yourself, only upload through Account → Verification on the official SpinBob site. Never email documents in reply to an unexpected message, and never share them over social media. SpinBob support works only through 24/7 live chat and the Help Centre contact form. Our privacy page explains how this guide handles data.
How long SpinBob KYC takes
| Stage | Typical time |
|---|---|
| Automatic check at registration | Instant |
| Manual document review | 24–48 hours |
| Re-review after a rejected upload | Another 24–48 hours |
| Source of Funds review | Several days, depending on documents |
Weekends can add a little time. If 48 hours pass with no update, ask live chat to check the status.
After verification
Once approved, you will not normally need to repeat KYC unless your ID expires, you move house, add a new payment method or an affordability check is triggered. Verified accounts get noticeably faster withdrawals — see our withdrawal problems guide and the full payments hub. If a KYC issue has led to an account restriction, our account blocked guide explains next steps.

Quick answers
What documents does SpinBob need for KYC?
+
You need photo ID (passport, UK driving licence or national ID card), proof of address dated within 3 months and proof of payment such as a card photo or e-wallet screenshot. For affordability checks you may also be asked for Source of Funds documents.
How long does SpinBob verification take?
+
Reviews usually take 24–48 hours once clear documents are uploaded. Rejected uploads restart the clock, so taking good photos the first time is the best way to keep it short.
Why does SpinBob ask for my documents when I've already registered?
+
UK Gambling Commission rules require operators to verify age and identity before any play, and to check affordability and payment ownership. A request after registration usually means the automatic check could not confirm your details.
Is it safe to upload my passport to SpinBob?
+
UK-licensed operators must store personal data under UK GDPR and use encrypted uploads. Only upload through Account → Verification on the official site, and never send documents in reply to an unsolicited email or message.
Do I need to show my full card number?
+
No. Cover the middle 8 digits of the card number and the CVV on the back. The first 6 and last 4 digits, your name and the expiry date should stay visible.
